Kindness Pledge

November is here! This will be my sixth Thanksgiving without the turkey (or any animal products for that matter.) Over the years, I have found many delicious alternatives to replace the turkey on my plate, as well as switch outs for veganizing my favorite side dishes. This year, both of my girls will be joining me in a meatless Thanksgiving plate, as both are now vegetarian. Gaby, my oldest daughter, went vegetarian last Thanksgiving, coincidentally. We were traveling so I couldn’t cook my favorite dishes, but this year we are home and I am hosting!

Although you can definitely make delicious and satisfying meal out of Thanksgiving sides, there are some great turkey alternatives now available in stores that make a great cruelty-free main dish. Some of my favorites include:

Tofurky Holiday Roast

Tofurky’s Holiday Roast

This roast makes a beautiful presentation and is also tasty! It comes with a yummy gravy too.

Gardein Turky Cutlets

Gardein’s Lightly Breaded Turk’y Cutlets

These cutlets are crispy on the outside and tender inside, with a homestyle gravy to pour on top.

Trader Joe's Turkeyless Roast

Trader Joe’s Turkeyless Stuffed Roast with Gravy

This is a great holiday centerpiece. It is full of flavor and very easy to prepare.

Field Roast Celebration Roast

Field Roast’s Celebration Roast

The Celebration Roast from Field Roast is available year round and is one of my favorite meatless mains to serve for a special occasion. It is a savory sausage-style stuffing made from Field Roast grain meat, butternut squash, mushrooms and Granny Smith apples, seasoned with a blend of rosemary, thyme and sage. It is a log shape that can be thinly sliced and placed atop mashed potatoes and drizzled with gravy.

There is no shortage of turkey-less options for Thanksgiving. I will be sharing recipes for some of my favorite sides all month too. This is one of my favorite times of year – not only because of the delicious food that is hearty and full of tradition, but also because the special magic of the season spreads throughout our communities.
