I attended Natural Products Expo West earlier this month. It was my second year attending, and one of my favorite vegan events. It is an annual trade show where companies show off their latest and greatest. It includes natural and organic products in the food, personal care, beauty, and household cleaning industries. A vast majority of the products are vegan, and it’s where all my favorite vegan companies debut their newest products. It’s like Christmas in Spring!
I spent an entire day at the Expo, making the most of every booth – aka free samples and tastings! I was stuffed after the first hour. I didn’t have a meal the entire day and never got hungry. Enough said! There is definitely some amazing innovation going on in the plant-based world. Companies who are already setting trends with break-through products are upping their game and creating some incredible products. It was also wonderful to see new brands debuting for the first time with never-seen-before products.
As I scoured the exhibit halls and walked the rows of booths, I was on the lookout for standout vegan family food products that I was excited to share with my family and all of you. I was ready to be wowed, and the Expo did not disappoint! There were so many delicious products that I can’t wait to buy at my local grocery store, share with my family, and play with in the kitchen. Kite Hill (my favorite yogurt) has some new flavors out. Enjoy Life has mini chocolate chip snack packs available now as well, and there is so much more! Check out World of Vegan’s awesome video with their vegan haul from the Expo.
Below are my favorite family vegan food products from the Expo. I am thrilled to share them with you, and hope you are as excited about them as I am.
My Favorite Vegan Family Food Products From Expo West 2017
1. Tofurky’s DIY Breakfast Sausage
Tofurky had an incredible booth at the Expo, showcasing their new line of DIY meats, including this breakfast sausage. Breakfast meats are one of the things I miss most being vegan, and one of the most difficult things to replace in my family’s diet without getting complaints from my kids. Lightlife’s veggie bacon is a mainstay in our house, but I long for a sausage with flavor. This new product is de-licious! And it’s DIY so you can make it into patties, roll it into links, or crumble it into tofu scrambles or potato hashes. It’s brilliant, tasty, and easy. The line also includes DIY burger meat and Italian sausage so you can now customize your burgers, spaghetti, tacos, and more!
2. Miyoko’s Smoked VeganMozz
I am a big fan of Miyoko’s cheese. It is one of my favorite artisanal cheeses, but they also carry a vegan mozzarella that is delicious. I use it on Caprese sandwiches and have also created mozzarella balls with it that non-vegans devoured happily. Miyoko is a cheese making genius with her latest creation. This Smoked VeganMozz is naturally smoked by hand (no artificial flavors here!). They were serving it on grilled cheeses – pure heaven. It’s available now online. I highly suggest you order it now for a grilled cheese you’ll never forget.
3. Follow Your Heart’s Rocket Cakes
Follow Your Heart is on fire this year with its new line of dairy-free yogurts and this vegan and gluten-free pancake & waffle batter. It is ready to pour – so easy to use. This is a busy mom’s dream and of my favorite vegan family food products to share with you. Vegan and gluten-free pancakes, you guys! I don’t have to make them from scratch and my whole family can eat the same batter (my son is on a gluten-free diet). They taste incredible too, although I would expect nothing less from this creation between Spork Foods and Follow Your Heart.
4. Zellee Organic Fruit Gel
I never fed my family jello before I went vegan, but I just might start with this fun new product! It has the same consistency as jello, but it’s gelatin-free and healthier! It’s organic with no added sugar or color, made with real fruit ingredients. I loved the orange peach flavor. They also have strawberry pear and blueberry grape. This is one of those products I can’t wait to play with and see what I can create. My kids are going to love these!
5. Unreal Dark Chocolate Peanut Gems
I have shed many a tear at the loss of my favorite candy, peanut M&Ms, after going vegan. I really miss my peanut M&Ms! No Whey Foods has a Choco NoNo’s product that is similar to M&Ms but doesn’t have a peanut version, and the taste is noticeably different. So, I was literally dancing in the aisles when I sampled the dark chocolate peanut gems from UNREAL. They taste just like the real thing. The real thing! And they also offer dark chocolate peanut butter cups! This is a big discovery on my list of favorite vegan family food products this year. They are available at Whole Foods. My life is about to get even sweeter!
6. YumEarth Candy
YumEarth set up one of my favorite booths – a candy bar! The company that originated the healthier lollipop has a whole line of candy out. They have sour jelly beans, gummy bears, and sour twists (watermelon and lemonade mixed together!). They were sour-tastic-ly sweet and fun to eat. My kids are excited that mom has found a healthy candy that she approves! I am really excited to share these candies with other moms too.
